Summary

Wings of Fury drops you into a horizontally scrolling World II sky where the line between arcade shooter and flight‑sim blurs. You pilot a lone aircraft off an aircraft carrier, hunting Japanese planes while threading through enemy‑filled islands. The core loop is simple yet tense: blast bunkers, guns and barracks with machine‑guns, then drop the limited bombs, rockets or torpedoes you’ve scavenged to finish the job.

Each sortie is a race against dwindling fuel and ammo, forcing you back to the carrier for a quick refill before the next wave. Some missions widen the scope, tasking you with sinking destroyers, battleships or even enemy carriers, turning the sky into a miniature naval battlefield. One stray collision with terrain or a barrage of enemy fire can end the flight, making every decision feel weighty.

Critics took note – *Computer Gaming World* praised its “best action graphics pulled out of the Apple” and called it an “exciting, memorable” experience, while *Dragon* awarded it four out of five stars. The Game Boy Color port in 1999 kept that punchy feel alive for handheld fans.

Storyline

Wings of Fury (Game Boy Color) puts you in the cockpit of an American F6F Hellcat launched from the USS Wasp, fighting over the Pacific in World War II. Each mission tasks you with defending the carrier against waves of Japanese aircraft while you sweep across a chain of islands. Your objectives are to crush enemy bunkers, guns and barracks, and to eliminate the defending troops using either bombs or the plane’s machine guns. By clearing these targets you gradually wear down the Japanese presence and keep the carrier safe.
