Summary
Wetrix GB brings the water‑shaping puzzle of its console ancestor to the Game Boy Color, squeezing the mechanics into a handheld’s tiny screen. The port was commissioned by Ocean, who hired Imagineer to handle the conversion.
During development the Pickford brothers, original creators of Wetrix, were left out of the loop, which sparked a heated dispute when they finally learned of the project. The quarrel was settled by granting Zed Two the intellectual‑property rights for any future versions, allowing the team to keep the Wetrix name alive on portable devices.
The Japanese launch arrived on 29 October 1999, followed by a European release on 29 September 2000. Critics noted that the handheld’s water fell noticeably slower than on the Nintendo 64, and the limited colour palette made lakes hard to spot, diminishing the original’s visual clarity.
