Summary
Tarzan – also released as Disney's Action Game: Tarzan – feels like a love letter to the jungle, even on the tiny Game Boy Color screen. Digital Eclipse built this version from the ground up, assembling a tiny crew of two programmers, ten artists and three level designers who crammed a full‑blown platformer into just three months. The result is a surprisingly rich playground: you can swing from vines, climb trees, run, jump and even surf across 13 distinct environments while meeting quirky characters and hopping onto elephants for short bursts of fun. The original design was far more ambitious; early plans called for NPC‑driven quests, bird‑riding segments and even a level where you control Tantor the elephant, but time constraints forced those ideas out. Still, the final game captures the spirit of the film’s adventure in a compact, puzzle‑filled romp that still feels fresh today.
Storyline
Tarzan (Game Boy Color) puts you in the shoes of the orphaned child raised by a troop of gorillas. At the start you’re a young kid learning to climb trees, swing on branches and fend off small aggressive wildlife.
As you progress the game follows his growth into the strong adult hero of the Disney film, letting you master his jungle moves. The final challenge is to protect his jungle home and the animal family from the ruthless hunter Clayton and his crew.
