Summary
The Game Boy Color version of Spider‑Man throws Peter Parker into chaos when an explosion at Dr. Curt Connors’ lab kicks off a mystery involving the alien symbiote and a host of the hero’s classic foes. The game’s levels are structured around reaching exits or completing clear objectives, and every misstep—running out of health, falling off a building, or failing a hostage rescue—forces you to retry the stage.
Combat leans on a limited pool of web‑cartridges you can fire to stun enemies, boost attacks, or create a temporary explosive barrier, while movement lets you crawl across walls, swing short distances, and zip between set points. Power‑ups like Spider‑Armor raise strength and defense, and Fire Webbing proves especially useful against symbiote enemies.
Collectible comics unlock cover art in the menu, and unlocking alternate suits—such as the strength‑boosting 2099 skin, the restricted‑web civilian Peter Parker outfit, or the neutral Ben Reilly gear—adds subtle gameplay twists. Throughout, Stan Lee’s narration peppers the prologues, grounding the action in true Marvel flavor.
Storyline
Spider-Man (Game Boy Color) throws players into a chaotic New York where a fake Dr. Otto Octavius stages a Science Expo demonstration that is hijacked by an impostor Spider‑Man. The real Peter Parker is blamed for the theft, prompting a city‑wide manhunt while a mysterious fog spreads, masking a symbiote invasion.
Teaming up with Black Cat, Spider‑Man stops a bank robbery by the Jade Syndicate, rescues J. Jonah Jameson from Scorpion, and later battles Rhino at a power plant. After Black Cat is wounded and kidnapped, Venom kidnaps Mary Jane, leading Spider‑Man on a chase through the streets, sewers and an abandoned Lizard lair.
The investigation reveals Mysterio’s disguise, a hidden undersea warehouse, and the true masterminds: a duplicitous Doctor Octopus and Carnage, who plan to flood the city with cloned symbiotes. With help from Venom, the Punisher and Captain America, Spider‑Man defeats Octavius, Carnage and their Monster‑Ock creation, ending the symbiote threat.
