Summary
Spider‑Man 2: The Sinister Six hit the Game Boy Color in May 2001 as a proper sequel to the handheld version of the 2000 Spider‑Man game. Torus Games handled the development while Activision pushed the cartridge out, and the European version simply swapped “The Sinister Six” for “Enter the Sinister Six.”
The gameplay stays squarely in side‑scrolling mode: Spider‑Man swings, climbs walls and punches through waves of minor thugs before a themed boss ends each of the six stages. Between the fights you must hunt for keys, free captive enemies or hit other hidden targets, which keeps the pacing fresh despite the repetitive format. All the classic moves—jump, web‑shoot, kick and a temporary stun—show up in a compact, GBC‑friendly control scheme.
Critics gave it a middling but respectable average of about 70 %, noting the solid level design and faithful web‑action while pointing out the graphics and sound limitations of the platform. It never tangled with the older 1992 Return of the Sinister Six, and it sat alongside later entries like the PlayStation’s Spider‑Man 2: Enter: Electro and the GBA’s Mysterio’s Menace, carving its own little niche in early‑2000s handheld superhero titles.
Storyline
The plot of Spider‑Man 2: The Sinister Six follows the kidnapping of Aunt May by the villainous team—Mysterio, Sandman, Vulture, Scorpion, Kraven, and mastermind Doctor Octopus. During the opening credits Dr. Octavius orders the Six to capture Peter Parker as a warning. When they break into the Parker house, Sandman and Scorpion find Peter absent, seize Aunt May, and leave a note directing Spider‑Man to Coney Island Pier.
At the pier Spider‑Man fights sewer thugs and Mysterio’s hologram duplicates before the villain taunts him and disappears. He then searches for a key held by a thug, defeats Sandman, and learns the Vulture awaits at the World Trade Center.
After unlocking doors on the Twin Towers, Spider‑Man battles the Vulture, who drops a clue to Madison Square Garden. The clue leads to a fight with Scorpion in the arena, after which Scorpion points him toward Central Park.
A storm‑soaked park brings a brutal duel with Kraven the Hunter. Respecting Spider‑Man’s skill, Kraven sends him to Empire State University for the final showdown. Inside the campus labs Spider‑Man defeats Doctor Octopus amid bubbling vats, watches the defeated mastermind vow future victory, and the epilogue shows Peter planning an unlisted address for Aunt May.
