Summary

Monkey Puncher lets you step into the shoes of Kenta or Sumire, each racing against time to rescue a kidnapped sibling. The core of the game is the quirky monkey‑training loop: you start with Freddy, feed him to win his trust, then guide him through skipping, punch‑bag work, sit‑ups, running and even shopping trips. Each activity nudges a specific stat—speed, power, strength, stamina or knowledge—while sparring offers a modest all‑around boost. As the monkey’s knowledge climbs, its shopping trips become more precise, fetching rarer items that can be used later.

Every three in‑game days a league bout rolls around, and you watch your monkey fight without direct control, only refilling health or stamina between rounds and offering strategic advice—provided the monkey likes you enough to listen. Wins against higher‑ranked opponents raise both your earnings and your monkey’s rank, while losses can drop it. The game even adds a dating mechanic: pairing monkeys can produce a baby with altered maximum stats, giving a fresh start with potentially stronger limits. All of this blends into a surprisingly deep simulation wrapped in a colorful Game Boy Color package.

Storyline

In Saru Puncher, the protagonist learns that their mother has passed away and that their father—once a Monkey Boxing trainer—has been kidnapped along with the player’s brother or sister by the criminal Saru gang. To rescue the family, the player must climb the Monkey Boxing Leagues, training a monkey for organized matches while uncovering a brain‑washing plot that forces the captured relatives to fight for Saru. The first major opponent is Cain, who challenges the player to a bout; after defeating Cain’s monkey, he retreats to the mysterious Saru master. The next hurdle is a ROBO monkey engineered by Saru’s professor, whose defeat earns the title of JSB Champion and an invitation to the Monkey 1 Grand Prix on Saru’s secret island base. The Grand Prix pits the player against five foes—including rematches with Cain and the professor, battles versus Sumire/Kenta, the father, and finally the Saru master—culminating in the rescue of the father and sibling and bringing the game to its conclusion.
