Summary
Power Pro Kun Pocket, often nicknamed Pawapoke, feels like a strippedâdown cousin of the main Power Pros games, yet it packs a surprisingly deep Success Mode. The mascot PowerâŻProâkun still bounces around with his signature eyeless grin, but the baseball mechanics are trimmed back, focusing on the core of pitching and hitting while discarding real ballparksâexcept for the iconic Koshien Stadium.
What really sets the pocket series apart is its emphasis on abilities. Ten rare "Super Abilities" can push a playerâs stats beyond the usual caps, and each pitcher or fielder can only hold one, making the choice feel strategic. Ability names have been reshuffled tooâsuffixes like 2 become X, 4 turn into â, and 5 into ââso veteran fans get a fresh puzzle to solve.
The money system lets you buy expansion teams and unlock miniâgames, many of which only appear after you clear certain Success Mode milestones. And if youâve ever wanted to carry your progress to a home console, the series generates passwords that can be imported into other Power Pro titles, though the transfer isnât as robust as one might hope.
Storyline
Power Pro Kun Pocket, the handheld spinâoff of Konamiâs baseball franchise, diverges from the realistic storytelling of the main Power Pros line. Except for the inaugural title and the Koshien entry, every subsequent Pocket game offers two distinct success modesâOuterâSuccess and InnerâSuccess. The series blends fantasy elements and even describes itself as a âgalâgame with baseball contents,â a shift Konami labeled as the âBaseball Varietyâ genre. Its narrative style was heavily inspired by the Tokimeki Memorial dating sims.
The only path to the coveted Super Abilities is through Success Mode. In OuterâSuccess, completing a girlâs ending rewards the player with two abilitiesâone for pitching, one for fielding. Each installment also features a wildcard girl who can grant any Super Ability the player chooses, though unlocking her usually demands tougher conditions.
