Summary
Pocket Puyo Puyo~n on the Game Boy Color mixes the catchy tunes from Pocket Puyo Puyo Sun with tracks from Puyo~n, giving the handheld a surprisingly rich soundtrack. The roster is expanded with several familiar faces from Pocket Puyo Puyo Sun, and the game keeps the series’ trademark comic humor while supporting two‑player matches for head‑to‑head chaos.
A standout Rally mode lets you unlock and pre‑select special abilities before each round, adding a layer of strategy that the handheld otherwise lacks—there’s no Special Rule or board‑specific tricks, and the grid stays at the classic size. Endless play mirrors Puyo Puyo 2’s Action Endless, where garbage drops into the tray and random helpers appear based on the chosen difficulty.
The GB version finally gives Puyo a voice, shouting “Ei!,” “Fire!” and “Ice Storm!” during chains. An official battle mode lets you sign your name, duel online, and watch your "Puyo class" rank climb, with an automatic handicap that keeps matches tight for both newcomers and chain‑masters.
Storyline
In Pocket Puyo Puyo‑n for the Game Boy Color, the story opens with the Dark Prince browsing a magical library. He discovers a mysterious black box that suddenly breaks free, opening on its own. The next morning a Puyo Circus arrives, prompting Arle Nadja and her companion Carbuncle to investigate, where they are greeted by Pierrot, a jester‑like figure. As Arle explores, the atmosphere feels off and Carbuncle vanishes, forcing her to battle familiar foes while allies Draco, Serilly, Witch and Chico join her against Schezo and Rulue. Rulue senses something wrong with the Dark Prince, who then freezes the other characters; Arle defeats him, and he reveals he was brain‑washed by a stronger enemy. Pierrot then appears as a doppelganger of Arle, claiming to be the "real" Arle from a previous world, and the two clash until Arle emerges victorious. The defeated doppelganger fades, Carbuncle returns, his forehead gem glows, and a blinding beam ends the game as the credits roll.
