Summary

NFL Blitz 2001 clings to its "No Refs, No Rules, No Mercy" mantra, delivering bone‑crunching hits and over‑the‑top celebrations that make traditional simulation titles feel politely restrained. The handheld version on Game Boy Color surprisingly packs instant replay and a suite of five mini‑games, giving portable fans a taste of the arcade chaos. While the Dreamcast and Nintendo 64 ports earned respectable GameRankings scores in the low‑70s, the GBC version struggled at just 30%, reflecting the challenge of squeezing the series' fast‑paced action onto a modest screen. Critics on Metacritic praised the Dreamcast’s 78/100 rating but noted the PlayStation and N64 versions hovered in the high‑60s to low‑70s, hinting at a solid but uneven cross‑platform experience. All told, NFL Blitz 2001 remains a nostalgic flash of pure, rule‑free football fun, especially for anyone who loves a good, unapologetic smash.
