Summary

Monkey Puncher lets you pick either Kenta or Sumire and instantly hands you a monkey named Freddy. The first task is to befriend the animal by offering food, which feels oddly satisfying before any training can begin. You spend half‑days on skipping, a punch‑bag, sit‑ups, running, or shopping; each rhythmic A‑button mini‑game raises speed, power, strength, stamina or knowledge, and sparring provides a small all‑around boost. As the monkey’s knowledge grows it can shop on its own and even mate, producing a baby with its own statistical ceiling. Every three in‑game days the monkey enters a Monkey Boxing League bout – you have no direct control during the fight, but between rounds you can restore health or stamina and whisper strategy, provided the beast trusts you. Higher‑ranked opponents award more cash and boost your rank, while a loss can drop it. The blend of cute pet‑care and turn‑based boxing makes for a uniquely quirky GBC experience.

Storyline

Monkey Puncher begins with a grim family tragedy: the protagonist’s mother has died and the father, a Monkey Boxing trainer, is abducted along with the player’s sibling by the Saru gang of monkey gangsters. Determined to rescue them, the player climbs the Monkey Boxing leagues, confronting increasingly tough opponents. The first major challenger is Cain, who sends his own monkey to a match; after defeating Cain’s monkey, Cain reports back to the mysterious Saru Master.

The next obstacle is the ROBO monkey, a mechanical creation of Saru’s professor, which must be beaten to continue the ascent. Victories earn the title of JSB Champion and unlock an invitation to the Monkey 1 Grand Prix, a secret island arena controlled by Saru.

During the Grand Prix the player faces five opponents, including rematches with Cain and the professor, battles against Sumire or Kenta, a showdown with the father, and finally the Saru Master himself. Defeating the master ends the brain‑washing plot and completes the game.
