Summary

Metal Walker turns classic RPG combat into a pinball‑style showdown. Each turn you pick a direction and how hard to launch your robot in a top‑down arena, trying to ricochet off walls or allies to chain hits on foes. The battlefield is littered with items you can toss in: capsules and healers boost your Walker, while weapons like Napalm only activate when an enemy strikes them.

Scatter Analyzers across the field to collect Scan Data from any Walker that bumps into them, then use the resulting scrap metal to build new units or buy gear. Defeating an enemy grants experience and occasionally a rare item, but a knockout halves your stored scraps and drops you at your last save.

Outside combat you roam a top‑down world of towns, dungeons and puzzle‑like obstacles such as water tiles that demand a set number of Cores to cross. Only one Walker can accompany you at a time, and each boss rewards Core Units that let you evolve the robot into a stronger form.

Storyline

Metal Walker is set in the late 21st century on an island where a mysterious, evolving metal called Core was discovered. After the military tried to weaponize Core, a catastrophic accident turned the island into the desolate Rusted Land, now patrolled by hostile robots known as Metal Busters. Fifty years later, young protagonist and his father, Tetsuo Kurama, devote themselves to locating lost Core Units scattered across the wasteland. The game opens with a Metal Buster gang separating the father from his son, forcing the boy and his companion Metal Walker, Meta Ball, to embark on a rescue mission. Guided by Professor Hawk, Tetsuo’s employer, the duo follows clues that Core Units emit, believing the father’s whereabouts are tied to those energy sources.
