Summary

Magical Tetris Challenge on the Game Boy Color blends the classic block‑dropping fun with a splash of Disney charm. In Magical Tetris the familiar seven tetrominoes are joined by “magical” pentomino pieces that let skilled players pull off five‑line clears—dubbed Pentris—and fire combo attacks at an opponent. Updown Tetris flips the traditional attack, sending filled rows that rise from the bottom, while a special Magic Meter builds as you chain lines; when it fills, a massive “clear” wipes a column of blocks for a dramatic swing.

The portable version trims the visual split‑screen down to a flashing laser that tracks your rival’s stack height, but it keeps the meter for the core modes and adds three fresh twists: Signal Tetris (matching floor colors), Towering Tetris (fighting a rising garbage pile with a rapid‑fire 1×2 piece), and Target Tetris (puzzle sequences of preset shapes). Quest Mode turns every win into a coin‑rally, letting you unlock the hidden character Pete after four completions, and chiptune versions of the console’s soundtrack give each variant its own vibe.

Storyline

Magical Tetris Challenge lets you pick one of four Disney heroes—Mickey, Donald, Goofy or Minnie—and each selection follows its own short storyline. The quest mode is built around a coin rally: you must win Tetris matches to snatch coins that are guarded by various characters or buildings. Every hero plays Tetris a little differently, adding a personal twist to each round. After gathering the required stash, you race to the rally station before a rival player can claim the loot, and the final three stages throw the Weasel and the Big Bad Wolf at you before the showdown with Pete, the series’ main villain. Completing Quest Mode four times unlocks Pete as a playable character in every mode.
