Summary

Looney Tunes Racing packs a surprisingly deep kart experience into the tiny Game Boy Color cartridge. With only six default racers and thirteen unlockables, the roster is tighter than the home‑console version, but each character still brings a cartoonish twist to the tracks. Power‑ups aren’t random pickups; you collect colored tokens that charge six distinct abilities, and you can trigger ACME‑gag arches to unleash environmental hazards ahead of you.

The Championship mode stacks three difficulty tiers—Rascal, Stinker, Despicable—each offering a progressively larger set of races and unique courses. Finishing in the top three earns points, while lower placements require you to spend a limited number of continues. Completing a championship unlocks a bonus level and a new driver, and beating the hardest tier delivers a special ending cutscene.

Acme Challenge throws fifteen themed events at you across three floors, rewarding bronze, silver, or gold medals. Medals unlock the next floor, and gathering gold on every event reveals secret characters—Porky, Elmer, and Gossamer—plus an exclusive museum ending. A two‑player mode adds race, battle (with the most powerful power‑ups disabled), and a chaotic “Wacky” option.

Critics were lukewarm: the GBC version sits around a 56% aggregate, with scores hovering near 5‑6/10 from major reviewers.

Storyline

In Looney Tunes Racing for the Game Boy Color, players battle through a series of whimsical championships. Winning the Despicable Championship unlocks a unique ending movie where Smokey the genie appears, congratulating the victor for “winning the race” and showing the results of the character’s wish. A separate Challenge ending is revealed only after earning medals in every Acme Challenge event; this cutscene depicts the Acme museum temporarily reopened.
