Summary
The Game Boy Color version of LEGO Racers lets you piece together a minifigure and a three‑brick car before taking on the champions of the LEGO world, ending with a showdown against the infamous Rocket Racer. Each circuit draws from the classic Castle, Pirates, Space and Adventurers themes, offering a dozen distinct tracks that hide shortcuts and power‑up bricks—projectile, hazard, shield and turbo—plus up to three “power plus” bricks that boost their effect. Racing isn’t just about speed; you can perform turbo starts, power slides and even super slides to carve tighter corners, while the HUD keeps track of position, laps and the power‑up you’re carrying. A link‑cable multiplayer mode adds a Versus Race where up to five racers can compete, discovering secret items and shortcuts together, making every race feel like a miniature LEGO build‑and‑race adventure.
Storyline
Set in the whimsical Legoland universe, LEGO Racers for the Game Boy Color follows the famed Rocket Racer, hailed as the greatest racing champion. After growing tired of easily beating every opponent, he teams up with his brilliant friend Veronica Voltage, who provides a dimensional‑warp machine to scout the finest racers from across Legoland’s history. The device brings together a roster of 24 rivals, each representing a distinct faction and circuit. Players encounter memorable hosts such as pirate Captain Redbeard on circuit one, island king King Kahuka on circuit two, and the spooky Basil the Batlord on circuit three, followed by Johnny Thunder, Baron Von Barron, Gypsy Moth, and finally Rocket Racer himself on circuit seven. Veronica Voltage also appears as a challenging time‑trial opponent.
