Summary

The Game Boy Color version of International Superstar Soccer 2000, released in Japan as World Soccer GB 2000, packs a surprisingly deep roster for a handheld. It boasts exactly 100 national teams, covering every UEFA member of the era, and even offers a European Championship mode that mirrors the real‑world qualifiers and finals.

What sets this edition apart is its experimental high‑resolution mode, unlocked via an expansion pack—an exclusive feature for the North American and European releases. While the sharper visuals were a novelty, they came with a noticeable dip in frame rate. The North American version also slipped in a handful of real‑named players, though no squad was fully authentic, and the Japanese build swapped the international line‑up for J.League clubs and kept unique crowd chants that the western versions lost.

Critically, the game earned solid marks: Famitsu gave the N64 counterpart a 34/40 and Nintendo Power scored it 7/10, while Time Extension later listed it among the best N64 titles ever made.
