Summary

Frogger 2: Swampy's Revenge on the Game Boy Color takes the classic arcade feel and stretches it into vertically scrolling stages, with just enough side movement to keep each run fresh. As you hop upward, you can gather gems and extra lives, while occasional restart points let you jump back into the action without starting from the bottom. Along the way, the seasoned frog Tadius appears to hand out strategic tips, adding a quirky mentor vibe to the frantic crossing.

The handheld version strips back the later 3‑D polish and returns to a pure “reach the end of the level” objective, complete with a ticking clock, score‑boosting gems, and checkpoint flags that serve as respawn spots. Over 24 stages are grouped into five distinct worlds—Frog Ponds, Gator Lairs, Ice Caves, Lava Pits, and Lost Mines—each teeming with the series’ signature cars, rivers and hostile critters. Players can choose either Frogger or his friend Lillie, making the experience feel both familiar and new.

Announced on May 5, 2000, the game rode the wave of the series’ resurgence, contributing to the near‑million copies sold across platforms by early 2001.

Storyline

In Frogger 2, the vengeful crocodile Swampy kidnaps the baby frog siblings of Frogger’s girlfriend, Lillie Frog. Determined to rescue them, Frogger and Lillie chase Swampy across a series of bizarre worlds, picking up the missing hatchlings along the way.

Swampy rockets into space and hijacks a satellite to air a commercial for his own title, *Swampy: The Game*. Lillie manages to fire a makeshift rocket, allowing Frogger to catch up and corner Swampy inside a space station. A mysterious device then shunts the trio back to Earth on Halloween night.

Back on the haunted house grounds, Swampy sets up a factory beneath the mansion, planning to turn the captured babies into game material. The heroes are trapped in a cage that descends toward a magma pit, but a baby named Tad slips off the conveyor belt, hijacks the controls, and inadvertently frees everyone. The resulting malfunction triggers an earthquake, blows up the factory and mansion, and a UFO streaks away as Swampy wails from a distant hill.
