Summary

Duke Nukem on the Game Boy Color lets the iconic macho hero battle the alien Zorgonites, who want to kidnap him and use his combat prowess to conquer the universe. The handheld version packs the familiar jump‑and‑run formula: you can walk, shoot, leap across platforms, climb ladders, hang from ledges and even crawl through tight passages. Vehicles appear as bonus tricks—a little tank and a tiny spaceship let you barrel through certain stages. Levels swing from a Zorgonite star‑ship interior to a moon base and even a chaotic stretch of L.A., each dotted with radar dishes, keycards and weapon power‑ups such as flamethrower, laser and rockets. I love how the game keeps the parallax‑style graphics alive on the tiny screen, and the Allgame rating of four out of five shows it holds up surprisingly well for a portable title.

Storyline

The Game Boy Color version of Duke Nukem drops the tough‑talking hero into a bizarre 1998 scenario. While appearing on The Oprah Winfrey Show in Neo LA (renamed Nerola City on the handheld), Duke is abducted by the alien Rigelatins, a hostile race bent on enslaving Earth. Their plan is to harvest his brain and use it as the core of an AI that will guarantee their conquest.

Escaping his prison cell, Duke battles across the alien world’s surface and deep underground corridors, tearing through enemy forces. He eventually blows up the Rigelatins’ energy reactor, then brings down their massive mothership. With a stolen fighter jet, he rockets back toward Earth, ready to finish the fight.

The storyline blends over‑the‑top humor with classic side‑scroll action, giving players a fast‑paced rescue mission that feels uniquely suited to the portable platform.
