Summary
Dragon Warrior Monsters feels like a nostalgic twist on monster‑collecting games, letting you step into the shoes of Terry, a kid from Dragon Quest VI, as you wander the Great Tree’s many worlds. Instead of catching creatures with balls, you coax them with meat after random battles, and any willing monster can be dropped into your Farm for storage or left to “sleep” so its wilderness level stays high.
The real depth comes from breeding: once you’ve cleared Class F in the arena, you can pair a male and a female at the Shrine of Starry Night. Their egg hatches into a level‑1 monster that inherits skills, stats, and even a plus number that boosts its maximum level—higher plus numbers cost more to hatch, but they also unlock the rarest power. The Egg Evaluator even lets you check or change the gender for a fee.
Progress is tied to the arena’s ranking system, which starts at Rank G and climbs through D, C, B, A and finally S. Each rank presents three tougher battles, and beating them opens hidden warp gates—some require you to befriend over a hundred monsters before they appear. Certain bosses will join you automatically, while others need a well‑timed meat offering.
Scattered Tiny Medals act as a side‑quest currency; the king of Great Tree trades them for monster eggs. And when you’re ready for friendly competition, the Game Link cable lets you battle and breed with friends, adding a social layer to the already massive pool of over 200 monsters and 40,000 possible combinations.
Storyline
In Dragon Warrior Monsters, the story begins long before Dragon Quest VI, when siblings Terry and Milly are still children. One night a strange monster snatches Milly away, and shortly after another creature appears, claiming to be Watabou. Watabou tells Terry that his sister has been taken by the evil Warubou and urges him to travel to the Kingdom of GreatTree.
Upon arriving, Terry meets the king and is given Slib the slime as his first monster to train. The kingdom’s ruler also informs him that winning the Monster Trainer’s Starry Night Tournament will grant a single wish, which Terry hopes to use to rescue Milly.
Armed with Slib and a growing team, Terry explores the many monster‑filled dungeons of Terry’s Wonderland, battling, recruiting and mastering monsters. His ultimate goal is to become the world’s most powerful monster master and free his sister from Warubou’s clutches.
