Summary

Donald Duck: Goin' Quackers on the Game Boy Color delivers a colourful 2‑D platform experience that feels surprisingly spacious for the handheld. Using the same engine Ubisoft employed for Rayman 2’s GBC port, the game offers smoothly animated ducks and richly detailed backgrounds that often draw compliments for their "stunning" visual quality.

The structure consists of twenty‑four stages divided into four themed warp rooms – Duckie Mountain, Duckburg, Magica DeSpell’s Manor and Merlock’s Temple – each ending in a boss encounter. Players collect items to earn extra lives, can unlock alternate outfits that affect cutscenes, and may switch between side‑scrolling and a brief pseudo‑3D perspective reminiscent of Crash Bandicoot’s layout. Bonus rooms give a change of pace by racing a bear, a truck, a ghost hand, or a stone head. A handful of hidden items also unlock alternative outfits.

Critics highlighted the fluid animation and colorful artwork, while noting the game’s modest length and low difficulty make it more appealing to younger fans. Metacritic recorded mixed or average scores, and IGN praised the graphics despite feeling the title is brief.

Storyline

In Disney's Donald Duck: Goin' Quackers, Donald, his rival Gladstone Gander, and inventor Gyro Gearloose are watching a TV report by Daisy Duck about mysterious Aztec‑styled ruins near a volcano. The ruins belong to the evil magician Merlock, who kidnaps Daisy as the broadcast ends. Determined to rescue her, Donald grabs Gyro’s new Tubal Teleport System to locate Merlock’s lair. However, the device is too weak, so Donald must place power‑boosting antennas throughout the jungle.

While racing against Gladstone, Donald also has to undo the spells Merlock cast on Huey, Dewey and Louie’s toys, turning them back to normal. Along the way he battles a series of bosses, including the Beagle Boys and the sorceress Magica De Spell. Each victory brings him closer to the hidden temple where Merlock awaits. The competition with Gladstone adds a playful rivalry to the quest.

Finally, Donald confronts Merlock, defeats the magician and frees Daisy just as the temple begins to collapse. Gyro’s teleportation device whisks the trio back to his laboratory. There, a grateful Daisy rewards Donald with a kiss. The adventure ends with the heroes safe and the ruins crumbling behind them.
