Summary

Dexter's Laboratory: Robot Rampage brings the mischief of the Cartoon Network series to a Game Boy Color cartridge, turning the iconic lab into a vertically‑stacked arena of elevators, shafts and moving platforms. The action is a bright, graphically tuned off‑shoot of Altron’s Elevator Action EX, repackaged with Dexter‑themed sprites and gadgets.

Each of the 16 stages feels like a tall, door‑filled tower where basic doors block entry, box‑marked doors hide weapons or health, and special lab doors drop code fragments needed to shut down the robot takeover. Dexter can swap between his standard lab coat and two bright robo‑suits – a cosmetic touch that doesn’t alter the core gameplay – and he battles the mechanical hordes with a selection of upgrades, a visible life bar and occasional puzzle‑style interactions before confronting a line of foes at every level’s end.

Critics gave the game middle‑of‑the‑road marks: GameSpot rated it 6.9/10, noting its faithful Elevator Action feel, while IGN’s 7/10 highlighted the added puzzles and life bar despite complaining about the anticlimactic stage finales. Nintendo Power settled on a 3‑star rating, reflecting its solid yet unspectacular presentation.

Storyline

In Dexter’s Laboratory: Robot Rampage, the rivalry between Dexter and his nemesis Mandark reaches a new level. Mandark hijacks Dexter’s own creations, reprogramming the robots to turn against their maker and set the lab ablaze. With the laboratory under siege, Dexter must sprint back into the chaos, hunting for the hidden deprogramming codes that can restore his machines. Along the way he battles waves of corrupted bots and other hazards Mandark has thrown in his path. The goal is clear: recover the codes, shut down the rogue robots, and save the lab from total destruction.
