Summary

The Game Boy Color version of Casper trims the original Saturn/3DO/PlayStation experience to fit a handheld, keeping only the puzzles and morph icons essential for the ending while rendering sound and graphics for a tiny screen. Played from a top‑view perspective with pre‑rendered artwork, it drops most enemies – the only foes you meet are the Ghostly Trio and Carrigan, letting the gameplay focus squarely on solving riddles. Funcom’s level design is paired with Interplay’s publishing and features the original voice talent for Casper and his uncles, while Kat and Dr. Harvey are voiced by Tanya Krievins and Blair Bess, who also narrates each act. A quirky detail is that all of the on‑screen dialogue uses the typeface from The Nightmare Before Christmas, giving the text a whimsical, Halloween‑ready feel. Beware an oversight: the game hands you a stray red key that opens no door, while a mis‑colored gold key can accidentally lock you out of progress.

Storyline

In the Game Boy Color version of Casper, the story diverges from the movie while keeping its darker undertones. The adventure is split into three distinct acts. First, Casper scours the haunted mansion for friendship tokens that will help both Kat and Dr. Harvey reconnect with the living world. The second act has him hunting down the scattered components of the Lazarus machine, which the Ghostly Trio smashed to stop him from using it, and reassembling the device. The final act sends Casper after the Cellular Integrator, a crucial piece needed to revive Harvey; however, Carrigan steals it, setting up the game’s climactic showdown.
