Summary

In A Bug's Life you guide Flik through a series of five distinct lands, each split into three platforming stages that demand either an exit, a specific goal, or a boss showdown. The core combat revolves around tossing berries—starting with weak red ones and upgrading to purple, faster, homing varieties, and finally gold berries that erase enemies for good.

Scattered seeds act as a sandbox: lift them, plant them, and watch them sprout helpful flora. By gathering colored seed tokens you can change a seed’s hue, which determines whether the resulting plant heals, shields, launches you, or even fires berries back at foes.

Flik’s health is shown as a leaf; bites appear when he’s hurt, and collecting 50 grains or red‑cross leaves restores it. Collecting the letters F‑L‑I‑K grants an extra life, while six lives start you off.

Floating telescopes point out hidden items or exits, and occasional grain harvesters both attract distant grain and wipe out enemies. Completing a level unlocks a short movie clip, rewarding thorough exploration.

Storyline

A Bug’s Life for the Game Boy Color puts players in the role of Flik, the inventive ant hero from the 1998 Disney/Pixar film. The game’s narrative follows Flik as he moves through various settings, tackling events that line up with the movie’s plot. While the core storyline mirrors the film, the developers introduced some changes to adapt the story for gameplay. Players experience a familiar adventure that stays true to the spirit of the original animated feature.
