Summary
Azure Dreams on the Game Boy Color feels like a distilled monster‑hunting adventure. Konami stripped away the PlayStation’s town‑building and dating scenes, swapping them for a leaner focus on the Tower of Monsters, which now packs more than twice the creature variety.
Each descent starts you at level one, but the familiars you hatch from monster eggs keep the experience you earn, offering hidden spells and distinct abilities. The Tower’s layout is freshly generated for every run, and rust traps still threaten to ruin your equipment.
An extra underground section adds a solid 100‑floor bonus dungeon, pushing the challenge further. Battles move to a dedicated screen and play out in a turn‑based style reminiscent of Pokémon, letting each monster attack count as a single turn.
For anyone craving classic RPG depth in a portable package, this version delivers an engaging blend of random‑dungeon thrills and collectible monster strategy.
Storyline
Azure Dreams takes place in the desert town of Monsbaiya, a settlement that thrives thanks to the mysterious Monster Tower looming above it. The tower draws adventurers and merchants alike, its presence the town’s lifeline. Years earlier, a renowned monster tamer named Guy vanished inside the tower, never to be seen again.
When his son Koh turns fifteen, he decides to follow his father’s footsteps and climb the structure. Early in his ascent he befriends Kewne, a talking monster who serves as his familiar. Together they push toward the tower’s summit, hoping to uncover the truth behind Guy’s disappearance.
