Summary
Armorines: Project S.W.A.R.M. landed on the Game Boy Color as a handheld adaptation of the console shooters, pulling its lore straight from the Valiant Comics series that Acquisition had snapped up. You pick either seasoned grunt Tony Lewis, who carries a hefty slow‑fire rifle, or the agile Myra Lane with a rapid‑fire machine‑gun, and both can scavenge a handful of environment‑specific weapons that level up three times each. The single‑player trek sweeps you across five diverse settings—earthbound bases and zero‑gravity space zones—while the game’s multiplayer shines in a 2‑4‑player co‑op campaign and a versatile versus mode featuring deathmatch, race‑wars, capture‑the‑flag and king‑of‑the‑hill battles. Critics were split: the title earned a middling 57% on GameRankings, with scores ranging from 3/5 (AllGame) to 7/10 (IGN) and a high 87% from German M! Games. Despite the uneven reception, the handheld’s blend of FPS action and quirky co‑op play still feels like a neat nostalgic bite for portable retro fans.
Storyline
Armorines: Project S.W.A.R.M. puts players in the boots of an elite unit of marines clad in futuristic, virtually indestructible suits. Their mission is to halt an invasion of alien, spider‑like creatures that threaten to overrun the planet.
The game offers two playable protagonists—Tony Lewis and Myra Lane—each equipped with a distinct load‑out that reflects their personal Armorine configuration. Both soldiers belong to a highly classified fighting force designed to survive the worst of a nuclear conflict, using advanced weaponry to cut down the extraterrestrial menace and protect Earth.
