Summary

Zoids Saga II, known in the West as Zoids: Legacy, expands the quirky blend of time‑travel storytelling and tactical RPG mechanics that defines the series. You command a squad of Zoid pilots across an 8‑directional overworld and dungeon maps, where enemy groups now appear as random encounters rather than visible sprites. Battles unfold on two opposing three‑by‑two grids, letting you field six Zoids at once and juggle weapons, pilot skills, and deck‑command orders for combo attacks. The game boasts over 140 different Zoid models, each tweakable with new weapons, color schemes, and upgrades, so you can craft a truly personal war machine. While the core gameplay mirrors its predecessor, the English translation is famously riddled with misspellings and nonsensical phrasing, a quirk that has become part of its cult charm.

Storyline

In Zoids Saga II (often just called Mugs), a catastrophic weapons test on the planet Zi triggers the Time‑Space Transmission unit to fuse multiple eras. The accident collides the timelines of the first three anime—Zoids VS, Liger Silver Beast, and the post‑first‑Saga events—so that warriors from the Chaotic Century and the New Century fight side‑by‑side. The human population is split between good and evil factions, each piloting massive mechanical beasts called Zoids in a desperate struggle for control. The story follows Zeru, a promising Zoids pilot, and his ally Juno as they battle the Backdraft Group and the Terra Geist organization while trying to untangle the merged timelines. Along the way they join forces with Van, Fiona and Bit Cloud, using the full power of their Zoids to restore peace and return Planet Zi to its proper state.
