Summary
X-Men: The Official Game (sometimes called X3: The Official Game) plays like a classic side‑scrolling beat‑‘em‑up. I navigate twenty‑five stages as Wolverine, Iceman, Nightcrawler, or—on the GBA—Colossus, hunting for the exit while trashing hordes of Hydra minions. Each hero feels different: Wolverine’s punches regenerate his health, Colossus can smash specific barriers, and everyone shares a special move fueled by a blue‑symbol power bar that spikes damage briefly. Switching characters on the fly lets me adapt to whatever the level throws at me, whether the map scrolls left‑to‑right, top‑to‑bottom, or folds into a maze.
The game pulls directly from the third X‑Men film’s plot, bridging X2 and The Last Stand, and even features voice work from the movie cast—including Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart. Though the GBA version is a straight‑forward platformer, critics were split; it earned a middling 55/100 on Metacritic and 6.7/10 on GameSpot, and was pulled from digital stores in 2014.
Storyline
X‑Men: The Official Game on the Game Boy Advance begins with Wolverine fighting Sabretooth in the Danger Room, only to be saved by Iceman while Cyclops mourns Jean Grey’s apparent death. Professor X orders the team to Alkali Lake to recover missing Cerebro parts.
Nightcrawler sneaks into William Stryker’s ruined base, finds Hydra agents looting it, and joins Colossus to retrieve the parts as Wolverine and Storm investigate Stryker’s Sentinel project. Storm is abducted by Lady Deathstrike; Wolverine rescues her and discovers the villains are allied with the Silver Samurai in Japan.
In Japan they battle Hydra forces and a massive Sentinel called Master Mold, learning a Hong Kong device can deactivate it. Magneto and Sabretooth arrive, but the X‑Jet is shot down and Magneto is briefly subdued by Jason’s telepathy.
Nightcrawler shuts down Master Mold’s control center while Iceman destroys its core. Wolverine defeats his clones, hurls Sabretooth from a height, and the Sentinel menace ends as Cyclops discovers a still‑alive Jean Grey.
