Summary

Worms Blast turns the classic bubble‑popping formula into a nautical puzzle. Instead of shooting spheres, I steer a tiny boat across a hexagonal sea of coloured blocks, using a bazooka as my starter weapon. Holding the fire button charges the shot, letting me lob missiles in graceful arches that either recolour mismatched blocks or explode matching ones, sending whole clusters tumbling into the water.

Each of the nine worm‑piloted vessels—three of which must be unlocked—brings its own stats for health, speed, turning and boat size, adding a subtle layer of strategy to the otherwise frantic matches. As I collect power‑ups, grenades, dynamite and other artillery join the bazooka, each reacting differently to the block layout and letting me reach tricky corners.

The game offers a surprisingly deep single‑player puzzle mode, plus a slew of multiplayer challenges like Deathmatch and Star Race. One notable omission on the Game Boy Advance is the BLAST mode found on the console and PC versions, but the core hex‑grid chaos remains just as addictive.

Storyline

In Worms Blast’s single‑player puzzle mode, you journey across a stylised globe, a layout that nods to the classic Capcom title Pang. Each stop on the map presents a self‑contained puzzle that grows tougher as you progress, with tasks ranging from blasting block‑shaped spaceships to dodging a snake‑like chain of moving blocks. The ultimate goal is to push your way toward the volcano at the centre of the world, a fiery endpoint that marks the completion of the campaign. Along the way, reaching specific points on the map unlocks extra characters, rewarding exploration and skill. The mode blends simple controls with increasingly complex challenges, keeping the experience fresh from start to finish.
