Summary
V‑Rally 3 on the Game Boy Advance takes the console rally experience and reshapes it for a handheld, swapping the high‑end 3D engine for a graphics setup that feels right at home on the GBA’s screen. The game still feels fast‑paced, with crisp sprites and smooth scrolling that keep the sense of speed alive.
The career mode is the real heart of the game – you race against AI through an ever‑extending series of seasons, chasing the championship title. When you just want a quick burst, the quick‑race option lets you tackle time‑attack runs or any of five distinct challenges, giving a nice variety without the long‑term commitment.
Behind the wheel you’ll find 20 officially licensed rally cars from the early‑2000s WRC and Super 1600 series, including the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VII, Subaru Impreza, Toyota Corolla and the flagship 2000 Peugeot 206. Four extra vehicles sit locked behind specific goals, rewarding players who push for the 2.0 L championship.
VD‑dev, the team behind the original Game Boy V‑Rally ports, handled the GBA version after an initial plan to develop it at Infogrames Lyon House. It launched in Europe and Australia on 21 June 2002 and reached North America on 17 October 2002.
Critics responded positively, and the title even snagged a runner‑up spot for GameSpot’s Best Driving Game on GBA award, falling just short of Driver 2 Advance.
