Summary

Ultimate Spider‑Man on the Game Boy Advance feels like a love letter to the comic series, turning the iconic panels into a side‑scrolling platformer split into seven “issues,” each with three chapters. You can jump into the shoes of either Spider‑Man or his dark counterpart Venom, and each hero brings a distinct combat style that lets you swing through New York or rip through foes with brutal bites. Spider‑Man’s web‑fluid is limited to a blue gauge that powers both web‑slinging and web‑firing; the sling works without a surface and propels him a set distance, while scattered blue pickups refill the tank and hidden power‑ups expand capacity. Venom, on the other hand, uses a health‑draining mechanic that stops once an enemy’s gauge turns purple, letting you consume the defeated foe to restore strength. The roster of antagonists is tight: Shocker appears only as a plot point, while Silver Sable and Carnage become the actual boss battles you must overcome. Along the way, familiar allies like Wolverine and the Human Torch pop in for brief team‑up moments, adding a comic‑book flavor that fans will instantly recognize.

Storyline

Ultimate Spider-Man (GBA) opens with a quick recap of the Venom storyline: a rainy‑night showdown on a high‑school football field ends with Venom seemingly electrocuted by a downed power line. Three months later Peter Parker has settled back into his normal life, unaware that Eddie Brock is still alive, feeding on strangers in a nearby park and even sparring with Wolverine over a stolen motorbike. A battle with the R.H.I.N.O. triggers Peter’s Spider‑Sense, and soon Silver Sable and her Wild Pack ambush Venom, who later escapes during a field‑trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art where Peter fights Eddie on the roof before Silver Sable captures him.

Eddie is locked in an energy cage by Bolivar Trask and Adrian Toomes, who coerce him into testing the mysterious black suit. Their first trial pits Venom against Electro in Times Square, only for S.H.I.E.L.D. to intervene and the suit‑wearer to flee, revealing to Silver Sable that Peter is Spider‑Man before transforming again and being chased by the Wild Pack. Meanwhile a mercenary calling himself Beetle frees the Green Goblin, who Spider‑Man defeats, and then hunts Venom for a sample of the suit; Venom ultimately overpowers Beetle. Silver Sable fires a tranquilizer at Peter, leading to a chaotic showdown above the Queensboro Bridge where both heroes are knocked down.

Toomes injects Eddie with a makeshift Venom sample, turning him into Carnage. Venom then absorbs Carnage, spits Peter out, and the combined suit leaves a white spider‑symbol on Peter’s body. Trask hands Peter files about his parents before a botched helicopter escape leaves Trask stranded, and Venom is finally defeated but slips away. S.H.I.E.L.D. arrives as Peter reads the documents, learning that his parents’ fatal crash was caused by Eddie Brock Sr. experimenting with the same suit; only three survived, and his mother died in an ambulance.

Distraught, Eddie transforms once more and kills Trask, prompting Peter to confess to Mary Jane Watson that he knows Eddie is still alive, trapped inside the alien symbiote.
