Summary
Ty the Tasmanian Tiger 3: Night of the Quinkan landed on the Game Boy Advance as a 2D side‑scrolling spin on the series’ usual 3‑D adventure. Halfbrick, the studio later famous for Fruit Ninja, handled the handheld port while Krome Studios oversaw the original title’s development. The game keeps the series’ cheeky Aussie vibe but strips away the console’s Go‑Cart sidequests and any multiplayer options, focusing purely on solo platforming. When you hop onto the Gunyip, the perspective flips into a horizontal scrolling shooter, and grabbing the Chopper drops you into a top‑down action segment, adding surprising variety to the otherwise classic platform run. It’s the third entry in the Ty saga, following Bush Rescue, and feels like a compact, arcade‑style showcase of the franchise’s quirks.
Storyline
Following the events of the previous game, the Bunyip Elder summons Ty and Shazza to The Dreaming, where the Quinkan have overrun the realm. Ty receives a Vortex Bomb from Julius, plants it at the Quinkan Castle’s weak point and escapes just as the Elder teleports him out. Back in Southern Rivers, Ty reunites with Shazza, Sly and the remnants of Bush Rescue in the ruined town of New Burramudgee. With Naomi’s new Extreme Bunyip suit and Red the Dog’s hopeful diplomacy, they liberate much of the region, rescue Dennis, and convince Maurie to re‑join the team. Their next hurdle is the Hexaquin, a powerful guardian blocking further progress, which Ty defeats to open the way forward. When Red betrays the group and kidnaps Shazza, Ty reluctantly allies with the shady Boss Cass and the racer Fluffy, who promises to locate Shazza if Ty completes a series of tasks. After winning a mountain race with the Extreme Bunyip, Ty learns that the Dragonquin in Cassopolis holds Shazza hostage; he defeats the creature using the Gunyip fighter plane and discovers the fallen fragments, dubbed Shadow Stones. Julius and the “Quinking Expert” Gooboo Steve reveal that the Shadowring, hidden in the forest, can harness those stones to defeat the Quinking. Ty, Julius and Ranger Ken retrieve the Shadowring and, with Cass’s warning, use it to vanquish the Spiderquin, the last guardian of the Quinking’s domain. Inside the Quinkan Citadel, Ty confronts the Quinking, only to be double‑crossed by Cass, who had secretly let the Quinkan into Southern Rivers. Fluffy sacrifices herself to save Ty, spurring him into a powered‑up form that finally defeats the Quinking and restores peace. Cass is returned to prison and a statue of Fluffy is erected in New Burramudgee’s square, marking the end of Ty the Tasmanian Tiger 3: Night of the Quinkan’s adventure.
