Summary

Turok: Evolution on the Game Boy Advance delivers a fast‑paced side‑scrolling shooter that feels surprisingly deep for a handheld. You dash through varied stages—jungle ruins, a rattling train, and other exotic locales—facing off against both human troops and roaming dinosaurs while swapping between Tal'Set’s and Djunn’s default weapons and a stash of pickups like pistols, shotguns, flamethrowers and rocket launchers.

Each level offers hidden ladders and alternate routes that act as shortcuts, and armor upgrades appear throughout to boost survivability. When the action gets overwhelming, a guardian‑angel power‑up can be summoned to clear the screen of foes. Boss encounters shift to a third‑person view, letting you aim with a reticle at enemies in the background, adding a tactical twist to the usual run‑and‑gun.

The game uses a classic password system: one code restores your progress, a second revives your health and weapon status. A cooperative mode is also built in, letting two GBA owners link up via the Game Link Cable for shared play. Developed by RFX Interactive, the title repurposes artwork and audio from its console counterpart and marks the first Turok handheld not crafted by Bit Managers. Acclaim released it in the U.S. on September 1 2002, rounding out the series’ portable offerings.

Storyline

In 1886, Tobias Bruckner and his cavalry wipe out most of the Saquin Indian nation, leaving only Tal'Set alive. Tal'Set confronts Bruckner just as a mysterious door opens, pulling both men into the Lost Lands. There he encounters the River People and their champion, Djunn, and the player must choose to control either Tal'Set or Djunn.

The chosen hero then rescues the Wise Father, the River People’s leader, after Bruckner kidnaps him. The Wise Father explains that Lord Tyrannus, an alien being, has enlisted Bruckner to annihilate the tribe with an army of experimental creatures. Determined, the player tracks down Lord Tyrannus, who attempts to escape aboard his spaceship, leading to a final showdown.

After the battle, the player can decide whether to kill Lord Tyrannus or spare him; both outcomes award the title of a Turok fighter. If Tyrannus is spared, Bruckner becomes enraged and meets his end in a grenade explosion. This branching conclusion wraps up the story of Turok: Evolution on the Game Boy Advance.
