Summary

Tales of the World: Summoner's Lineage feels like a hidden gem in the Tales universe, swapping the series' usual side‑scroll action for a tactical, grid‑based battlefield on the Game Boy Advance. You move each character across the board and only trigger combat when you close the distance, then issue attacks, spells, or summons just like in the mainline games. Every unit carries an elemental alignment, so a fire‑type hero is vulnerable to water attacks, adding a layer of rock‑paper‑scissors strategy. The game even recycles the mechanics of Namco’s Pocket King, a GBC sequel to the 1988 Famicom title King of Kings, giving it a nostalgic pedigree. On top of the classic Tales of Phantasia cast, you can call forth Fulein’s summoned creatures, each with its own stats and moves, turning the battlefield into a lively, ever‑shifting puzzle.

Storyline

Tales of the World: Summoner's Lineage (often just called Summoner's Lineage) is set in the same world as Tales of Phantasia, specifically in the year 4765 of the Aselia Calendar—411 years after the future depicted in the original game. The story follows a young summoning apprentice named Fulein K. Lester and his sprite‑like companion Macaron as they study how to call magical beasts into the physical realm. Their training is abruptly interrupted when a surge of monsters and other dangerous creatures begins to appear, threatening the stability of their once‑peaceful nation. To counter the crisis, the legendary Heroes of Time—Cress, Claus, Mint, Suzu, Arche, and Chester—are summoned from the past. Together with a few new allies, they set out to rid the world of the looming threat.
