Summary
Capcom managed to squeeze the classic Super Street Fighter II Turbo onto the Game Boy Advance, delivering what many fans call Super Turbo Revival. The port keeps the core roster of over sixteen fighters and the lightning‑fast animation that defined the arcade, while the GBA’s four‑button layout can be remapped to suit any play style.
Most character sprites were lifted straight from the SNES version of the original, but the newer techniques from the arcade‑based Super Turbo use the larger arcade frames, which explains the brief size spikes you see on moves like Guile’s standing heavy kick. Akuma is the exception – his entire visual set comes from the arcade, giving him distinct advance and retreat animations.
Stage work is surprisingly thorough: Ken, Guile and M. Bison get brand‑new backdrops, Zangief and Balrog are heavily re‑imagined, Ryu’s arena is borrowed from Street Fighter III 3rd Strike, and Chun‑Li fights on a stage lifted from Alpha 2. Akuma even receives his own altered version of Ryu’s stage.
Voice clips mirror the arcade, except Ryu’s lines are taken from the original Street Fighter II and Akuma’s from the Alpha series. The music isn’t arcade‑grade, but the danger‑theme versions and exclusive remixes are all present.
A notable tweak is Akuma’s ability to pull off the Shun Goku Satsu as a Super Combo, and players can unlock a Shin Akuma variant that pushes his power even further.
