Summary
Summon Night: Swordcraft Story 2 lets you wander a top‑down world where every breakable object is a potential loot source, and each weapon you wield has a very specific puzzle‑solving role. Knuckles push boulders, drills crumble walls, spears harvest items from trees, swords trim tall grass, axes smash stumps, and the trusty hammer activates floor buttons – swapping tools on the fly feels oddly satisfying.
Combat flips to a 2‑D side‑scroll arena, real‑time and frantic. You can equip three weapons and toggle between them mid‑fight, while a limited durability meter forces you to keep an eye on wear and tear; once a blade breaks you’re left with the hammer until you repair it. Enemies sometimes carry their own weapons, and you can defeat them by shattering either their health or their gear, gaining the same crafting material they used.
The crafting loop is the game’s heart: a shapestone of the right type (sword, axe, spear, knuckle, or drill) plus a chosen material births a weapon whose power mirrors that material. Upgrading adds special traits, and you can even disassemble a weapon to reclaim its shapestone, though any extra materials are lost. Reviewers praised the refined graphics and witty dialogue, even if the story felt thin and the back‑tracking repetitive.
Storyline
Summon Night: Swordcraft Story 2 follows an orphan of the Colthearts clan, raised by a Craftknight and dreaming of becoming one themselves. The player chooses either Edgar or Aera, both Edge Fencers, who stumble upon an abandoned ruin where the Summon Beast Goura awakens, forcing them to bind with a stray Summon Beast and set out to reseal the site.
Early in the adventure the hero selects a Guardian Beast—EX‑e‑LD, a logical long‑range robot from Lorilal; Loki, a brash Oni demon from Silturn; Dinahi Dinadi, a devil‑angel hybrid from Sapureth; or Arnokoi Anokoi, a gentle half‑beast of the wind from Mae Trope. This partner stays for the whole game, shaping dialogue but not the core plot. Along the journey the protagonist uncovers the history of their father Graham, the Daemon Edge that seals Goura, and a mysterious power within their own blood.
With the help of their caretaker Blaire, who is cursed by Goura, the new swordcrafter must forge the Daemon Edge, confront the revived monster, and finally reseal the ruin—while constantly breaking any mechanical objects they touch.
