Summary
Star Wars: Jedi Power Battles (often just called Jedi Power Battles) brings the prequel’s lightsaber duels to the Game Boy Advance in a surprisingly deep package. Unlike its console siblings, the handheld version trims the roster to three Jedi—Obi‑Wan, Qui‑Gon, and Mace Windu—yet swaps between isometric corridors and classic side‑scrolling sections to keep the action fresh.
The game blends platforming with beat‑'em‑up mechanics: you’ll jump across precarious gaps, lock on to the nearest foe with a single button, and deflect blaster fire using the Force. Occasionally you’ll hop into a ship for a brief piloting segment, adding a splash of variety to the ten‑level trek.
Each Jedi feels distinct, thanks to unique lightsaber styles and force powers, and the title rewards completionist play by unlocking extra characters and hidden stages. While the GBA omits Adi Gallia and Plo Koon, the core trio still offers enough depth to satisfy fans of the film’s choreography.
Deflect. Defeat. Destroy! The tagline sums up the frantic assaults on locations like the Theed Royal Palace, where you can carve a path through swarms of enemies and prove the Force is on your side.
Storyline
Star Wars: Jedi Power Battles loosely follows the plot of The Phantom Menace. Two Jedi are dispatched to negotiate with the corrupt Trade Federation on Naboo, only to discover a trap and battle through hordes of droids aboard the Federation ship. After reaching the planet’s surface they trek through swamps that lead to the capital city, Theed, and are forced to flee with Queen Amidala and her court aboard her starship.
The group lands on Tatooine to scavenge parts for the Queen’s ship, battling Tusken Raiders and a dark‑robed assassin before heading to Coruscant, where criminals launch an assault. The Jedi fight their way to the Galactic Senate to protect the queen, but grow disillusioned with the Senate’s apathy and return to Naboo to liberate Theed.
Allied with the Gungans, the Jedi storm Gungan ruins, free a pair of droid STAPs and use them to breach the royal palace. Scaling the palace walls with Force‑enhanced jumps, they confront Sith apprentice Darth Maul, defeat him, and celebrate the victory with Boss Nass and Queen Amidala, while Yoda warns that Sidious remains at large.
