Summary
SSX Tricky, the handheld spin on the snow‑boarding series (sometimes called SSX 2), arrives on the Game Boy Advance as a stripped‑down port that trims the original’s visual flair to fit the portable chip. Visual Impact handled the conversion, simplifying tracks and graphical assets while keeping the core feel of racing and trick‑showing. Players can pick from twelve colorful riders, from returning faces like Elise Riggs to newcomers such as Psymon Stark, and compete across familiar remixed courses—Mercury City, Tokyo Megaplex—and two brand‑new runs, Garibaldi and Alaska. The GBA version retains the series’ signature Uber Tricks: fill the adrenaline bar, spell out TRICKY with six over‑the‑top moves, and you earn unlimited boost for the rest of the race, while a rivalry system makes AI opponents react to your aggression. Four play modes—Freeride, Practice, World Circuit and Single Event—let you unlock boards, outfits and characters, though the handheld’s reception was modest, earning an average score on Metacritic.
Storyline
In the Game Boy Advance version of SSX Tricky, the roster is missing two fan‑favorite riders, Hiro Karamatsu and Jurgen Angermann. Their absence is explained in‑game as the result of off‑season injuries that keep them from competing.
