Summary

The Game Boy Advance version of Spider‑Man 2 transforms Manhattan into a sprawling playground where I swing, wall‑crawl and zip through 19 brand‑new levels. While the film’s storyline hangs in the background, the game lets you take on Doc Ock and a roster of classic Marvel foes – Vulture, Shocker, Rhino and Mysterio – each demanding its own combo moves. The side‑scrolling style packs a surprising amount of depth, rewarding timed jumps and web‑zipping as much as combat.

Developed by Digital Eclipse, the title launched in 2004 and was later bundled with the 2002 Spider‑Man GBA game for a twin‑pack re‑release in 5​05. IGN praised its graphics, sound and fluid wall‑crawling, though the same review called out the repetitive music and thin combat system. Despite the mixed press, the GBA version moved 600,000 units in the United States, generating roughly $17 million and ranking 47th among handheld games released from 2000‑2006.

Storyline

Two years after the first game, Peter Parker struggles to juggle school, friends and his Spider‑Man duties. His crush Mary Jane and best friend Harry Osborn suffer from absences, and Harry blames Spider‑Man for his father's death. While stopping a museum robbery, Peter meets the cat‑burglar Black Cat, who later becomes an ally. He also defeats Rhino and is taunted by SFX artist Quentin Beck, who later adopts the Mysterio persona and stages attacks on an opera and the Statue of Liberty.

Harry introduces Peter to nuclear scientist Otto Octavius, whose fusion experiment goes critical, killing his wife and destroying his AI inhibitor. The accident turns Octavius into Doctor Octopus, who robs a bank, kidnaps Aunt May and demands tritium from Harry, using Mary Jane as bait. Spider‑Man battles Octavius on a subway train, saves passengers, and confronts him in a waterfront lab where Octavius sacrifices himself to destroy the reactor, saving Mary Jane.

Meanwhile Black Cat urges Peter to abandon his civilian life, but after capturing Shocker and exposing Mysterio’s illusion, she accepts his double‑life. Mary Jane breaks off her wedding to John Jameson, rushes to Peter’s apartment, confesses her love and promises to support his secret identity as Spider‑Man 2.
