Summary
Smuggler's Run on the Game Boy Advance drops you into three massive, open environments – a rugged Rocky Mountain forest, a scorching desert, and a frozen tundra – each begging to be explored at breakneck speed. You can hop between dune buggies, rally cars, and even military‑grade rigs, using them to haul contraband across the sprawling terrain while dodging obstacles and rival drivers. The game tries to capture the high‑octane feel of its console counterpart, but the handheld version struggled to translate that excitement, earning generally unfavorable reviews on Metacritic. Still, the sheer variety of vehicles and the freedom to drive wherever you want give the title a nostalgic charm that stands out among GBA racing games.
Storyline
In Smuggler's Run for the Game Boy Advance you start out fresh in a local smuggling gang, tasked with moving illegal cargo across three distinct environments – a forest, a desert and a snow‑bound region. Each terrain hosts roughly ten missions, and the overall career mode strings together 34 missions where you must out‑maneuver the U.S. Border Patrol, the CIA and rival smuggling crews.
Success hinges on mastering your off‑road vehicle to tackle the unforgiving terrain while staying one step ahead of pursuers and making the drop. The game’s structure forces you to balance speed, handling and route planning across each level’s challenges.
Beyond the main campaign, Smuggler's Run offers Turf War, a series of mini‑games that pit you against others in cargo‑smuggling races, and Joyriding, a free‑roam mode that lets you explore the maps without any chase.
