Summary

Shrek Hassle at the Castle is a 2D beat ’em up on the Game Boy Advance that actually sticks to the plot of the first Shrek film, something none of the other handheld titles do. Players can pick Shrek, Donkey or Princess Fiona and dash through 24 stages that mirror scenes from the movie, mixing side‑scroll platforming with simple combat.

The game shines in its four‑player mode, where a Link Cable turns the handheld into a tiny arena. Up to four friends can battle for coins, trying to knock each other’s loot out of reach while the side‑scroll action keeps the pace frantic.

A year later the series moved on with Shrek: Reekin’ Havoc, but the original GBA title remains a quirky, nostalgic slice of early‑2000s portable gaming.

Storyline

In Shrek Hassle at the Castle (Venom) for the Game Boy Advance, Shrek sets out on a mission to rescue his beloved swamp. The ogre must battle through a castle overrun by pesky fairy‑tale characters who have taken over his home. Along the way he confronts familiar faces from the movies, turning each encounter into a platforming challenge. The goal is simple: clear the castle and reclaim the swamp for good.
