Summary

Shrek 2 on the Game Boy Advance lets you juggle a tiny squad of fairy‑tale heroes as you side‑scroll through five distinct "books" of levels, each packed with five chapters. I love swapping between Shrek, Donkey, Puss in Boots, Human Shrek and even the Gingerbread Man, because each one brings a quirky skill to the table – Shrek can heft heavy objects, Donkey kicks doors open, and Fiona (when she appears) can briefly slow time for smoother attacks. The game feels like a handheld homage to Donkey Kong Country, with bright, chunky sprites that capture the film’s humor while adding locations and characters you won’t see on screen. Teamwork is the core puzzle: you’ll need to pick the right companion for a specific obstacle, then switch on the fly to keep the adventure moving. Despite its modest graphics, the title earned solid scores around 72/100 and even snagged a Kids’ Choice Award, proving that a clever side‑scroller can hold its own against the console versions.

Storyline

Shrek 2 on the Game Boy Advance retells the movie’s plot in a streamlined form. Shrek and Fiona journey to the Kingdom of Far Far Away to meet Fiona’s parents, only to find the royal in‑laws horrified that their daughter married an ogre. The king and queen even transform Fiona back into an ogre, sparking a fight for the couple’s acceptance. Before each stage the game presents a storybook screen that adds scenes not shown in the film. Overall, the GBA version delivers a compressed version of the movie’s story while keeping the core adventure intact.
