Summary
Scooby-Doo! Unmasked drops you into a compact 2D platform adventure on the Game Boy Advance, where the hunt for clues outweighs the usual buttonâmashing combat. As Scooby, you can slip into three quirky costumesâa Kung Fu outfit, a bat suit, and an archer getupâeach granting a unique move like a karate chop, a glide, or a plungerâshot that feels oddly satisfying for a handheld title. The game is split into three sprawling worlds, each packed with multiple stages, miniâgames, and plenty of cutâscenes that lead up to climactic boss battles, keeping the mystery vibe alive despite the shorter format. Developed by Artificial Mind and Movement and published by THQ, the title earned mixed or average reviews, landing a 61.60% score on GameRankings for its GBA incarnation.
Storyline
Scooby-Doo! Unmasked opens with Scooby, Shaggy, Fred, Daphne and Velma visiting Fredâs cousin Jed at the Monstrous Fright and Magic (M.F.M.) specialâeffects studio. Jed has vanished and his animatronic monsters are running amok, prompting M.F.M. CEO Winslow Stanton and his assistant Marcy to blame Jed for stealing expensive animatronics and a supply of Mubberâa soyâbased compound that dissolves under UV light. They claim Jed was last seen heading to Chinatown for a New Yearâs parade, so the gang sets off to find him.
In Chinatown they meet Maggie Xi, who warns them about the demonic sorcerer Zen Tuo and his dragon. Scooby explores a cookie factory, a sewer, and a dojo palace, rescuing Shaggy and Daphne before battling the dragon in a Mubber kungâfu costume atop a warehouse. Zen Tuo is revealed to be Maggie in disguise; her Mubber body disintegrates under UV light, exposing her as a stolen animatronic with a male voice saying, âyou canât catch what you canât hold.â Fred suspects the voice might belong to Jed.
Velma follows a signal to the Rock ânâ Roller Coaster Land amusement park, where Alvin Wiener tells the gang about the masked Guitar Ghoul scaring guests. Scooby uncovers clues in a haunted house, water slides and a circus tent, rescuing Daphne in a bat costume. The Guitar Ghoul is unmasked as Alvin, a failed musician, while Nikki Starlight is revealed as the real Guitar Ghoul. Velma notes Alvinâs costume is made of Mubber.
The mystery leads to a private naturalâhistory museum where a âCavemanâ appears. Scooby saves Shaggy from a pterodactyl, discovers an oilâcovered bone and a Stanton contract, and frees Fred and Daphne from an aquatic exhibit in an archer costume. The Caveman turns out to be security chief Joseph Grimm, part of a scheme to sell petroleum hidden beneath the museum using animatronic dinosaurs as oil pumps. Velma deduces that Stanton framed Jed.
Back at M.F.M., the gang finds Jed trapped in a monster costume and faces Stantonâs giant Pterodactyl robot. Scooby defeats it using his various costumes, then a UV light reveals the second âStantonâ to be Marcy in a Mubber disguise seeking revenge. Marcy and Stanton reconcile, making her a full partner. The game ends with Shaggy preparing a Mubberwich, which Scooby vaporizes with UV light, prompting Velmaâs joke about a âlight snackâ as the gang laughs.
