Summary
Samurai Jack: The Amulet of Time lands on the Game Boy Advance as a surprisingly deep Metroid‑vania adventure. I jump into seven distinct zones, hunting down elemental gem pieces that gradually reassemble the titular amulet and unlock new gear – a high‑impact battle hammer, a handy super‑jump, and a handful of extra swords. The level design feels pulled from both classic Metroid and recent Castlevania titles, giving the experience a familiar yet fresh platforming rhythm. Critics were divided: IGN gave it a 6/10, applauding its design but bashing the lack of originality, while Game Informer was kinder with an 8/10. The mixed Metacritic score reflects the consensus that, despite its polished combat and unlocking system, the game never fully escapes the shadow of its genre predecessors.
Storyline
Samurai Jack: The Amulet of Time takes the animated hero on a handheld adventure across seven distinct areas. Each region is themed around a classical element, and Jack must locate the hidden gem piece that powers the amulet. The amulet’s full assembly is the only way to open a portal back to his own era.
Along the way, Jack battles a variety of Aku‑spawned enemies and solves platforming puzzles that guard each fragment. Collecting all seven pieces restores the amulet’s power and lets Jack attempt the final jump through time.
