Summary

RockMan EXE 4 Tournament Blue Moon (known overseas as Mega Man Battle Network 4: Blue Moon) stands out for its tournament‑driven structure and the new Soul Unison mechanic. In this version you can fuse MegaMan.EXE with defeated NetNavis, borrowing their abilities for three turns by sacrificing a specific battle chip – the Proto Soul, for example, turns the Charge Shot into a Long Sword that pierces two panels and deals 60 HP damage. The game also embraces the e‑Reader ecosystem, linking to RockMan EXE 4.5 Real Operation, the Battle Chip Gate, and even Mega Man Zero 3, while sprinkling nods to Konami’s Boktai series. A Japan‑only special edition boxed the Red Sun and Blue Moon cartridges together on December 31 2004, complete with an exclusive E‑Card for the e‑Reader. The Battle Chip Gate expansion adds a color‑coded gauge that lets you fire regular, mega, or giga chips depending on its fill level, giving a fresh tactical layer to the familiar grid‑based battles.

Storyline

At the NAXA space research center, scientists discover a massive asteroid on a collision course with Earth. Their laser‑steering plan fails, so they turn to a world‑class Net Operator and NetNavi for help. Meanwhile, Lan Hikari and MegaMan.EXE battle ShadeMan.EXE, who drops a mysterious DarkChip—a program that grants great power at the cost of a Navi’s soul. Warned never to use it, the duo later faces the DarkChip Syndicate Nebula after their home is burglarized, forcing them to employ the chip to defeat ShadeMan and confront LaserMan.EXE, who reveals MegaMan’s DarkSoul.

After winning the local Den Battle and the Eagle/Hawk Tournament, Lan and MegaMan are invited to the Red Sun/Blue Moon Tournament in Netopia. Victorious there, they return to NAXA, where they learn the asteroid contains a computer that can be steered by a Navi. Dr. Regal, revealed as Nebula’s leader, discloses the asteroid was part of his scheme. MegaMan battles LaserMan (Regal’s Navi) and Duo.EXE, the asteroid’s operating system that deems Earth "evil." Convincing Duo that the planet is worth saving, MegaMan averts disaster, and the asteroid departs as Regal leaps from the NAXA tower.

In RockMan EXE 4 Tournament Blue Moon (known casually as MegaMan Battle Network 4: Blue Moon), you once again assume the role of Lan, guiding MegaMan.EXE through cyber‑world battles against viruses and other threats while unraveling this high‑stakes storyline.
