Summary
Rocket Power: Beach Bandits brings the salty‑air vibe of Ocean Shores to the Game Boy Advance, letting you zip around on a skateboard while hunting down the mystery of the missing sand. The handheld version, crafted by Helixe and released in late 2002, swaps the TV show’s usual surf‑and‑skate antics for a quirky mix of rail‑grinding, robot‑bashing, and item‑collecting. You’ll trade tricks for clues, chatting with locals to piece together where the sand vanished, then swing a hockey stick to smash robot panels and snag smoke bombs that help you stay one step ahead. The game’s extreme‑sports roots shine through the fast‑paced skate sections, even as the robot‑fighting adds a surprising twist. Critics gave it mixed reviews, but for anyone who grew up watching Rocket Power, the handheld’s blend of skate culture and goofy sci‑fi feels like a nostalgic side‑quest worth the cartridge.
Storyline
Rocket Power: Beach Bandits kicks off as Otto, Reggie, Twister and Sam are gearing up for their summer vacation when the sand at Ocean Shores mysteriously vanishes. The gang discovers that a shady firm called Golem Industries has stolen the beach sand and sets out to retrieve it.
Their investigation leads them to the local lakes, where they learn Golem Industries has also siphoned the water to power a hidden facility. After destroying the water plants and battling the Barramundi Bot, the team returns to Ocean Shores.
The trail points to Wishing Waters, a water‑park that hides a massive robot factory beneath it, controlled by a sentient supercomputer named Cyrax. Sam hacks the system to build a robot for access, but Cyrax destroys it; the crew then smashes Cyrax’s chips with skateboards, causing the computer to explode. A downhill dirt‑track race with Lars reveals the location of Golem Industries’ headquarters.
Inside the base, Golem Sr. activates an earthquake machine, is knocked into lava and emerges as a robot before being defeated. The final twist reveals Eric Golem Jr. as the mastermind, threatening a tsunami. After a series of race challenges and a hover‑board showdown between Otto and Eric, the base is destroyed, and the gang forgives Eric, urging him to make human friends.
