Summary
Rayman: Hoodlums' Revenge drops you into an isometric world right after the events of Rayman 3, letting you swap between Rayman and Globox for the first time in a solo Rayman adventure. The game mixes classic platforming—hover‑jumps, climbing and Rayman's signature spin attack—with puzzle sections that force you to hunt down hidden switches. Levels reward the collection of gems and luminoths, and freeing Teensies or beating enemies grants points that turn into “Murfy” stamps, which unlock bonus stages. Audio cues shine, with a memorable soundtrack that earned praise, though reviewers noted the diagonal pad controls feel clumsy and the isometric camera can make navigation oddly stiff. Critics called the visual design a highlight, but the linear level layout and repetitive feel kept scores in the mixed‑average range. Announced in February 2005, it launched alongside Rayman DS for the Game Boy Advance, delivering a unique, if uneven, slice of Rayman history.
Storyline
Rayman: Hoodlums' Revenge kicks off with Rayman and his buddy Globox dozing in a forest when the Black Lum André kidnaps Globox as a revenge strike after Rayman previously defeated the Hoodlums' leader. Rayman awakens, discovers his friend missing, and sets out to rescue him. Murfy soon warns him that the Hoodlums are using an Infernal Machine to clone the deadly Reflux from Rayman 3, and the machine also churns a potent plum‑juice that powers their scheme. Along the way Rayman saves the Teensies, battles a series of bosses, and notices Globox’s sudden mood swings as André’s dark spirit begins to possess him. In the Pit of Endless Fire Rayman defeats the Firemonster, but André fully seizes control of Globox and announces his return. The climax pits Rayman against the cloned Reflux, a creature born from Globox’s body; after a hard‑fought victory the black spirit flees through Globox’s mouth. Globox awakens, asks if he missed breakfast, and the pair stroll back into the forest, the adventure ending on a light note.
