Summary
Over the Hedge on the Game Boy Advance drops players a year after the film, letting RJ, Hammy, Verne and the rest of the gang scout six distinct zones for quirky loot – a popcorn machine, a TV, and other trinkets to spruce up their secret log base. Along the way the critters hustle through a string of bonus minigames that break up the platforming, while a mischievous Sniffer, known as Dwayne the Verminator, tosses mind‑controlled vermin at them, from nosy weasels to a grumbling badger and even the hulking Vincent the bear.
The title leans heavily on simple puzzles and color‑blocked levels, which earned it a lukewarm 5.4 / 10 from GameSpot, who called it “best suited for very young children.” Despite the generally unfavorable critic consensus, the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences still penciled it into the Children’s Game of the Year category, hinting at the charm the franchise retains for its younger fans.
Storyline
Over the Hedge on the Game Boy Advance picks up a year after the film. RJ, Hammy, Verne and the rest of the gang realize the log needs more supplies, sending them on a wild romp through six distinct areas.
They steal items such as a popcorn machine and a television while dodging the Sniffer—Dwayne the Verminator—who commands mind‑controlled vermin as henchmen.
Along the way the game sprinkles bonus mini‑games that break up the platforming.
Various critters, from weasels and badgers to Vincent the bear, are initially under the Sniffer’s control, but Vincent eventually redeems himself and aids the crew.
