Summary

Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee’s Game Boy Advance port takes the quirky oddball world of Abe and Munch and reshapes it into a top‑down 2D platformer that feels surprisingly friendly for a handheld. Developed by Art Co., Ltd and released in 2003 under THQ, the version strips away the original’s gore and profanity, offering a cleaner visual style while still keeping the core puzzle‑hunting fun. I love toggling between Abe, who can grab objects and people, wield a ball‑of‑energy chant to possess a range of creatures (even those snarl‑type Slogs), and call on fellow Abe‑kins for brute‑force support, and Munch, who can summon small critters called Fuzzles and use sonar to control larger enemies from control panels. Their abilities complement each other: Abe’s ground‑level strengths versus Munch’s swim‑friendly moves. The storyline is dramatically pared‑down, focusing on simple objectives rather than the console’s deeper narrative, which makes the handheld experience quick‑pacing and easy for a short session. Even though the depth is trimmed, the playful switch‑between the two protagonists and their unique powers still captures the off‑beat charm that makes Oddworld memorable.

Storyline

Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee follows Munch, the last surviving Gabbit, after the Glukkons harvest his kind for food and lungs. Captured by the floating Vykkers Labs, a head‑mounted device gives him powers and lets him free imprisoned Fuzzles. Veteran Mudokon Abe is sent by the ancient “Almighty Raisin” to rescue Munch and locate unborn Mudokon eggs. Together they dismantle factories, police forces, and gather wealth for the lazy Glukkon Lulu to infiltrate a high‑stakes auction.

Using Lulu’s riches, Abe and Munch break into Vykkers Labs, confronting researchers Humphrey, Irwin, and Glukkon queen Lady Margaret. They must rescue Fuzzles and Mudokon scrubs to raise Quarma; the ending changes with the score. With 50% or more Quarma they win the auction, steal the last can of Gabbiar and blow up the Labs with Fuzzle‑planted explosives, watching a second moon bearing a Gabbit foot‑print.

If Quarma is below 50%, the Fuzzles turn on them, Abe dies and Munch is killed for his lungs. Low “Black Quarma” (10%) still ends with the Gabbiar eaten and Mudokon eggs hatching; “Angelic Quarma” (90%) triggers a market crash that blames a bankrupt Lulu. The game mixes 3‑D platforming with classic Oddworld satire, offering multiple endings based on rescued creatures.
