Summary

Ninja Five-O (known in PAL territories as Ninja Cop) feels like a love‑letter to classic action‑platformers while sneaking in a few surprises of its own. The level design echoes the fast‑paced runs of Shinobi, but the grappling‑hook mechanic—used almost constantly to swing between platforms—adds a Bionic Commando‑style verticality that keeps the pacing fresh.

Each stage is a puzzle of hostage rescues, colored doors and hidden keys. Finding the right key to unlock a matching door often caps a level, thrusting you straight into a boss showdown that rewards both timing and the clever use of your arsenal.

Speaking of arsenal, the game hands you a katana, shuriken and a handful of special moves, but the grappling hook is truly the star tool, letting you zip past enemies or reach hidden alcoves where extra weapons or keys lie.

Beyond the gameplay, the title’s box art—illustrated by Julie Giles, who also crafted iconic Konami packaging—has become a collector’s gem, and the game’s critical praise (Metacritic 82/100, multiple "best of" mentions) only heightens its reputation as a rare, must‑play GBA treasure.

Storyline

In Ninja Cop (Advance‑Power), you step into the shoes of Joe Osugi, a skilled ninja tasked with halting a terrorist organization that wields the mysterious Mad Masks. These masks grant their wearers obscene power, driving the group’s violent agenda. Across five missions, each split into three distinct levels, Osugi battles through enemy ranks and rescues hostages. Every mission culminates in a challenging boss fight that tests both stealth and combat prowess. The game blends classic side‑scroll action with a quirky, mask‑infused storyline.
