Nicktoons Unite! (known in PAL territories as SpongeBob SquarePants and Friends: Unite!) feels like a love letter to every Nickelodeon cartoon I grew up watching. For the first time, heroes and villains from shows like SpongeBob SquarePants, Danny Phantom, The Fairly OddParents, Jimmy Neutron and even the newer Tak and Rocket Power actually share the same screen, hopping between each series’ signature world to solve puzzles together. The Game Boy Advance version strips the experience down to a crisp 2D platformer, but it keeps the charm by using pre‑rendered 3D sprites lifted straight from the DS’s models; each level forces you to swap between the two characters you start with, turning the usual platforming run into a tiny brain‑teaser. Developed by Climax Action and published by THQ, the title even hinted at an Xbox release that never materialised, making the handheld version the only way to experience this crossover on the go.

Storyline

Nicktoons Unite! kicks off when SpongeBob discovers Plankton using massive vacuum machines to seize Bikini Bottom. A portal opens behind SpongeBob’s house, releasing Goddard with a message from Jimmy Neutron, and the heroes—Jimmy, Timmy Turner and Danny Phantom—join forces in Jimmy’s lab. Jimmy coats SpongeBob with self‑regenerating moisture and explains that his Universe Portal Machine has been stolen by Professor Calamitous, who has formed a Syndicate with Plankton, Vlad Plasmius and Denzel Crocker to siphon energy from their worlds.

The team’s first teleport lands them in Vlad’s castle instead of Casper High, where they learn the ghost portal is draining the Ghost Zone and has captured Danny’s parents. After escaping the Ghost Zone Prison with the help of the Box Ghost, they destroy the portal’s generators and defeat Vlad’s forces. The heroes then travel underwater using Jimmy’s air gum, rescue Patrick from a jellyfish‑harvesting machine, and battle a giant robotic crab piloted by Plankton on the Chum Bucket’s roof, discovering the villains’ Doomsday Machine.

In Dimmsdale, the group shuts down power to Crocker’s golden fortress before heading to Fairy World, where they free the fairies and defeat Crocker in an exosuit at The Big Wand. Back at Jimmy’s lab they meet Cindy Vortex, learn a flea‑bot has infiltrated Goddard, and use a shrink ray to enter the robot, destroy the spy and locate Calamitous’s lair. The final showdown sees the Nicktoons dismantling the Syndicate’s Doomsday Machine, imprisoning Calamitous, and receiving Neutronic Recalls from Jimmy before parting ways.
