Summary
The Game Boy Advance version of Nicktoons: Attack of the Toybots (sometimes called SpongeBob to Nakamatachi: Toybot no Kougeki in Japan) feels like a nostalgic 2‑D platformer that sneaks in light shooting and puzzle moments. Firemint’s handheld take lets you hop between eight familiar Nickelodeon heroes—SpongeBob, Danny Phantom, Jimmy Neutron, Timmy Turner and his fairy godparents, among others—while also debuting Tak from Power of Juju and giving My Life as a Teenage Robot a second cameo. Levels such as the Ghost Zone, Pupununu Village and Retroville are exclusive to the portable versions, and the Toybot Factory is split into multiple zones that keep the pacing brisk. Critics gave the GBA edition a middling 65 % on GameRankings, noting that it’s solid enough to entertain younger fans for a few hours but not a standout title. Still, the mix of cartoon crossovers and unlockable content makes it a quirky collectible for any retro‑gaming shelf.
Storyline
In the opening cutscene of Nicktoons: Attack of the Toybots, Professor Calamitous appears on the reality show "The Biggest Genius" and boasts that feeding fairies Krabby Patties creates a magical gas. When mixed with ghost energy, this gas fuels his army of Toybots – evil toy duplicates of abducted Nicktoons. Meanwhile, SpongeBob and Patrick are delivering millions of Krabby Patties to a processing plant in Bikini Bottom, only to have a robot vacuum‑suck the entire shipment and trap Patrick like a toy. SpongeBob chases the robot into the factory, frees Patrick, and soon meets Tak of the Pupununu People, who reveals he was also abducted and scanned.
The duo soon joins Timmy Turner, Stimpy, Rocko, GIR, Jenny/XJ‑9 and Jimmy Neutron, all captured by Calamitous. Together they encounter ChadBot, Calamitous’ robot assistant, and help him gather "master models" of the various Toybots. After enough models are collected, ChadBot lets Jimmy contact Danny, who reports that Calamitous’ toy army has taken over his house to harvest Ghost Portal energy. Jimmy summons Danny and Sam to meet the heroes at Amity Park’s EvilToyCo outlet, where they pilot large mech suits to battle the Saucer Men used for abductions.
The team then heads to Fairy World, where Patrick frees Jorgen Von Strangle from a glass prison to destroy the Fairy Harvester. With the harvester down, the heroes press on to confront Calamitous himself. They crash onto the set of "The Biggest Genius," where ChadBot is announced the winner. The host explains that ChadBot’s Toybot fuel formula and the collected master models earned the victory, and ChadBot publicly credits the heroes before shaving Calamitous’ mustache off as his prize.
